Reflection Journal 5: Transformative RPGs – Deeper Dive

In Transformative Role-playing Game Design (Bowman, Diakolambrianou, and Brind, eds. 2024), read:

  • * Pages 65-74 of Chapter 2 (Design)
  • * Pages 80-104 of Chapter 3 (RPG Theory)
  • * Pages 114-128 of Chapter 3 (Interaction and Educational Theories)
  • * Pages 144-151 of Chapter 4 (Practice) 

Then, answer the following questions. This journal should not take more than 15 min (set a timer):

  1. Choose one (1) theory in Chapter 3 that was interesting or intriguing to you. Describe the theory and how it relates to transformative role-playing games in ROCKET. 
  2. Reflecting on this content, describe one (1) takeaway that will help when designing your own transformative role-playing game.
  3. Describe one (1) aspect about designing a transformative role-playing game that feels challenging for you currently.
