Sharing materials produced as part of the ROCKET project is one of the project’s core objectives. On this page, three online courses are shared as Open Educational Resources: the Student Virtual Exchange, the Admin Staff Training and the Teacher Training. The Student Virtual Exchange is already available, Adming Staff and Teacher Training will follow shortly. The modules will be made available in three formats:
- Common Cartridge
- Training Preview
- Accessible PDF file
Like other Open Educational Resources, the material is published under a Creative Commons CC-BY-NC licence. This means that you may use and adapt the material, provided that you mention as maker of the material: ROCKET: Role Playing Games on Conflict Transformation for Equity in Higher Education through Virtual Exchange.
The Common Cartridge file is the most important of the three formats mentioned. You can download this file and then import it into your own Learning Management System (LMS). This creates an online learning module that you can use to deliver the training yourself. To do so, you will need to adapt certain elements to the specific characteristics of your educational environment. These include, for example, the trainers’ details and links to websites containing information about your learning environment and the support offered by your institution. These sections are clearly marked within the course.
To learn more about using the Common Cartridges in your institution, click this link.
The training preview is primarily intended to give you an idea of the content of the Common Cartridge. After all, without this preview, you won’t know what the course you’re downloading actually contains. As with the Common Cartridge, certain sections of text are highlighted in yellow; these are the parts that you must adapt to your own context.
The training is offered on the ROCKET website in a kind of LMS, but it is not intended for self-study. Tasks such as discussion forums are presented as standard pages rather than as actual discussion forums – after all, you are not expected to submit a contribution yourself, nor are there any fellow students whose contributions you can comment on. Furthermore, your progress is not tracked. In the Common Cartridge file, however, the tasks are included using real assignments.
The accessible version is a series of PDFs presenting the content of all modules of the training. It contains the content of the modules in a readable format, for those who find it difficult to navigate an LMS.
