Discussion 5: Facilitating for Inclusion

Our ROCKET DEI Teacher Guideline is a resource that helps you to reflect on how to make your course more inclusive, from conception to assessment. The following questions by Sanger (2021b) can be connected to the planning stage of this guideline and focus on inclusive course material. Accordingly, we ask you to take one of your lectures or practicals, workshops etc. which you have given in the past and check for diversity of your content by answering the following questions in 1-2 sentences each:

  • Images: do they reflect a small range of identities?
  • Examples and case studies: do they reflect a small range of identities?
  • Academic sources: do they suggest knowledge is only produced by White men?
  • Examples of writing or presentations: do they show only one option?
