Discussion D: Worldview, Cognitive Dissonance, and Perception Checking
Review all materials from the Nonviolent Communication and “I” Statements module and the Worldview, Cognitive Dissonance, and Perception Checking module.
Then, answer the following questions with 1-2 complete sentences each:
- Discuss an example of content from your course, e.g. an article, video, etc. What worldview(s) are represented by the content? How might the person’s worldview shape their perspective? Be specific?
- Discuss three (3) factors that shape your worldview. Examples include cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs, gender/sexuality, race/ethnicity, subcultural affiliations, etc.
- How might aspects of your worldview affect conflict situations? Be specific.
- Do you engage in perception checking with others when in a conflict?
- If so, has perception checking had a positive impact?
- If not, do you think you might find perception checking helpful? Why or why not?
- Do you use “I” Statements with others when in a conflict?
- If so, have “I” Statements had a positive impact?
- If not, do you think you might find “I” Statements helpful? Why or why not?
