Instructions for the Elements Conflict Style Assessment
The Elements Conflict Styles Assessment is an instrument adapted by Evocative Games AB from work by Thomas and Kilmann (1974) and Kraybill (2024).
The Assessment asks you to consider your reactions to conflict in specific settings related to higher education: in this case, as a colleague in your university. Based on your responses, the Assessment ranks your most used and least used conflict styles in times of Calm vs. Storm.
Note that the Assessment reflects your current tendencies in conflict; these tendencies can change over time and in different circumstances.
We have two different versions of the Elements Conflict Styles Assessment:
- The linked Google Sheets version, which calculates your scores for you.
This version is ideal for online teaching on laptop or desktop computers. To use this version, you must have a Google account and be logged in. Make a copy of the Google Sheet to fill out the form. - The linked Microsoft Word version, which you can download and fill out in the program.
- The linked Adobe PDF version, which is printable. This version is ideal for classroom situations without laptop or desktop computers, i.e., using a pen and paper. The Assessment can also be used on a laptop or desktop computers if you make a copy of the Google Doc and fill out the form.
Whichever version you use, follow the instructions on the sheet and try not to think too much about the answers. Go with your instincts.
