Discussion 1: DEI Challenges in Relation to Course Topics

After taken part of the materials about CVE, DEI, RPGs, and CT, answer the following questions with 1 paragraph each (remember the general guidelines: A paragraph is 4-6 sentences, You need to send in your answer before you can see the answers from the other participants):

  1. Before we address Critical Virtual Exchange in more detail, we would like to learn about your previous experience with VE! Do you have experience using Virtual Exchange in your teaching?
    • A. If so, please describe for (one project) the topics, course(s) and partner(s) involved. What challenges, if any, did you experience in relation to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion? Were any if these related to aspects discussed or using the Padlet above?
    • B. If not, can you imagine applying Virtual Exchange in the context of a course you teach? Which topic(s) would you like to address, which partner(s) to work with, and which course(s) to choose for the VE project? Which aspect of DEI would you like to focus on in your project?
  2. Referring to what you’ve learned so far about Critical Virtual Exchange and Diversity, we’d like you to reflect on barriers in and around higher education. Who can participate in higher education? Who can contribute? What barriers do you perceive?
  3. Pick two of the four topics (CVE, DEI, RPGs, and CT) and write a short reflection on how you think they can enhance each other. Be specific.
